Trump administration unveils new plans for free HIV drugs

The administration of Donald Trump on this Tuesday has unveiled a new plan for the distribution of medication free for the individuals who don’t have the coverage of prescription drugs insurance.

The federal program is called Ready, Set, PrEp and is going to provide the patients who are at a risk of contraction of HIV, one out of the two drugs that are pre-exposure. These medications are capable of reducing the chances of getting HIV by having sex by a percentage of over 90%.

The medications known as Descovy and Truvada are made in part possible by the donations which have been received by the manufacturer of drugs namely Gilead Sciences. This covered for a minimum of 200,000 individuals every year who were not insured and would continue to do so for the coming 11 years. The government though has been paying this drug-makerfor many months for the distribution of medication.

With no insurance, a supply for 30 days costs an amount which is in the range of $1,600 and $2,000.

This is an initiative which is part of the efforts of President Trump for the reduction of the number of HIV infections in 10 years by 90%.

This program is going to begin immediately. The candidates who want to apply for this have been given the option of applying through phone or in person. Further, there is an option of going to a website named GetYourPrep.com.

This program is going to re-verify the ones who participate two times in a year. They are also going to be tested for the HIV virus after every three months.

The patients who’ve been getting help through Gilead’s assistance program in the last year will not be eligible for the drugs.
