The transportation regulator of London is not going to renew the license of Uber to operate in the capital city of Britain. This has threatened the future of the ride-sharing company in what is among its biggest markets.
The agency called Transport for London is in charge of regulation of taxis and vehicles which are for hire in London on Monday said that it has identified Uber’s pattern of failures which is threatening the safety of riders in the city and Uber has failed in doing enough for correcting this failure.
For the next three weeks, Uber is going to operate in London and the company has pushed a notification for its local riders saying on Monday that this decision is not going to affect the service. The company has said that it is going to appeal against the decision in front of a magistrate judge. The general manager of the region for the company has said that this decision which has been taken is wrong and extraordinary.
Uber has had a history of fights with regulators in London. The transportation agency in the city had denied previously the renewal of its license in the year 2017. They had cited the approach of Uber towards the checking of driver’s backgrounds and the failure of the company in reporting any criminal offences which involved passengers and drivers.
The company had received an extension of 15 months only after it promised to rethink its safety approach. Ever since, the company has been adding driver education which focuses on road safety and has been reforming its process for reporting the crimes to police and has also added an emergency button in the app and also created an independent board which oversees their operations.
