General Motors to invest in the pickup trucks production

On Friday, General Motors confirmed that it is going to invest an amount of $1.5 billion for the production of its next-generation GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickups.

GM has been putting an amount of $1 billion of that into the truck plant in Missouri known as Wentzville truck plant for the upgrade and $500 million for the retooling of its factories of suppliers as per GM.

The president of Mark Reuss has said that this has been a part of their comprehensive strategy for the investment in the areas of growth and the strengthening of their manufacturing base in the United States. GM is going to be selling more pickups than the other automakers and that they are going to have aggressive plans for building on their strengths

There has been no information regarding the redesigned trucks are going to go into the markets for sale however the operations of retooling the plant have been expected to start a little later in the month and are going to last for several months. The spokesman of the company has said that there is an expectation of minimal downtime during the work which is going to happen at the plant.

This plant is among a handful of the U.S. assemblies for General Motors which operate on three shifts all day. Continuing the vehicle production is on the list of high priority of GM especially with the introduction of similar vehicles by the competitors of GM like Fiat Chrysler and Ford Motors.

An investment on this plant is expected to last for some time as these vehicles have not been designed completely since GM had reintroduced the pickup trucks in the year 2014 in the United States.
